This is one illustration of a pair done for Dragon Magazine, way back in the day. It was for an article that showcased a mess of new monsters for the Underdark, including a Drider God (pictured here, getting ready to chow down on one of its' worshippers).
Drawn by hand, then finished in Painter 6, starting with the watercolor tools and finishing in "oils".
Awesooome. That is a big bug. I like the monster design and how they fade away near the bottom, although it took me a second to figure out that guy was getting eaten by the spider and it wasn't a drider or something...
Oooh wow. This is delightfully creepy (I'm arachnophobic). The composition is just stunning. I love the way you made the intense scale of the larger spider creature by fading it out. And the orange-green/blue combo works amazingly well. It's very eye-catching. Wonderful stuff!!!
